The Making of the Nike Air Yeezy
Posted on March 3, 2009
Complex was able to grab Kanye West & Mark Smith (Nike’s Creative Director of Special Projects) for a few moments of their time for an exclusive interview about the process of creating/designing the Air Yeezy.
Mr. West stated that the initial design of the Air Yeezy was inspired by the Nike Mag, the shoe Marty McFly, played by Micheal J. Fox, wore in the classic film Back to the Future II, and various models from Jordan Brand that Tinker Hatfield designed.
The early sample models show a multi-layered base with the beginning phase of incorporating the glow-in-dark materials, size/positions of the perforated leather, and the addition of the strap.
The full interview with Kanye West & Mark Smith as well as several detailed images of the Air Yeezy will appear in the April/May issue of Complex.
