Jake Gyllenhaal And Jim Carrey Are ‘Damn Yankees’

It looks like Hugh Jackman and his Oscar top hat were right — the musical IS back. Variety reports that Jake Gyllenhaal and Jim Carrey are going to take Jackman at his word, and star in a remake of “Damn Yankees.” It will be the first musical for both actors and yes, they will sing.

“Damn Yankees” will be a contemporary version of the 1955 musical, but will stick closely to the same story of Joe Boyd, a happily married man who suffers from a lifelong devotion to a losing baseball team. One night, Joe meets the Devil, who convinces him to sell his soul and become Joe Hardy, the all-star slugger the team is desperate for. Boyd can escape the deal, as long as he does it before the World Series — but to keep him tempted, the Devil hires the gorgeous Lola to seduce him.

Gyllenhaal will play Boyd, and Carrey will play the Devil, a choice which should shock no one.

Remember when the Neptunes were going to do the soundtrack for the first Transformers movie? This is totally not that, but Kanye and Kid Cudi do have the right idea: they’re essentially premiering a snippet of a song through the Transformers 2 trailer. Who cares if the song’s vibe doesn’t mix with anything happening on screen? This is the future of music.

After showing off the Mardi Gras colorway for the All-Star game in Phoenix, Chris Paul unleashed the white home colorway of his signature shoe on the league earlier this month in our Kicks On Court. Today we have an in depth look at another colorway that will drop in the coming months.

The Jordan CP3 II is arguably the best colorway so far of the CP3 II. As if the fact that on the court 22 points and 11 assists per game this season isn’t enough, colorways like this will help Chris in his quest to be the face of Jordan Brand for years to come. The limited number of colorways of the CP3 II in my opinion, is a good thing. Keeping the choices simple and not over doing it, a lot like the way OG Jordans were released back in the day. I believe they call it becoming legendary.

Reebok Pump fans will be stoked to know that a colorway of the Pump Omni Lite we showed you last month has finally made it across the pond. The Reebok Pump Omni Lite in the purple and red colorway has arrived at Sneaker Bistro. That means you won’t have to pay ridiculous conversion rates, or double the price to have these kicks shipped from overseas.

The Omni Lites received a unique treatment from Reebok in the form of mesh applied to the various places. This isn’t the typical mesh seen on sneakers, it’s more along the lines of a pair of basketball shorts. The rest of the kicks have a nice mix of leather in purple, red, and black colors.

Eddie Murphy to Play Richard Pryor in Bill Condon’s Biopic

Bill Condon had his biopic Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? in development at The Weinstein Company, but they put it into turnaround so now Condon has attached Eddie Murphy as star and gone out to court the studios for a new deal. Condon previously threatened to relaunch Murphy’s acting career (as in actual acting) with his Oscar nominated part in Dreamgirls
