Hollywood Remakes
Posted on November 26, 2008Karate Kid: Columbia Pictures is back in the dojo with a new version of the 1984 hit “The Karate Kid,” which has been refashioned as a star vehicle for Jaden Smith. The film will be produced by Jerry Weintraub (who launched the original franchise) and Overbrook Entertainment’s James Lassiter, Will Smith and Ken Stovitz. The script is being written by Chris Murphy, and the film will shoot next year in Beijing and other cities. While the new film will be set in that exotic locale, it will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor. Rumors are pitting Jackie Chan to be the new Mr. Miyagi. They better not mess that up!
The Last Dragon: Reuters reports RZA and Dallas Jackson are co-producing a remake of Berry Gordy’s cult classic martial arts film, The Last Dragon. Few details have emerged thus far, but Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed he will reprise the part of Sho’nuff the Shogun of Harlem. Dallas Jackson, whose previous film works include production on I, Robot and Norbit, is currently writing the script. Norbit???? I dunno, it better be good.
The Warriors: Director Tony Scott is set to helm the remake of Walter Hill’s 1979 gritty, classic tale of rival gangs. But this time, it’s going to take place in California and the Warriors will be trekking it from Los Angeles to Long Beach. Can you dig it?

Posted on November 21, 2008
The Golden State Warriors traded disgruntled forward Al Harrington to the Knicks for guard Jamal Crawford on Friday in a swap that addresses both the Warriors’ injury problems and New York’s salary cap concerns. The Knicks also dealt Zach Randolph to the Clipperss for Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas. The Knicks are making some room for Lebron!!! I can feel it! 2010, Lebron at MSG…
