Hunger director Steve McQueen is making a film about the life of Fela Kuti, the Nigerian musician / activist who essentially invented Afrobeat.The film will draw from the book Fela: The Life and Times of an African Musical Icon, by Michael Veal. Fela’s history is too detailed and incredible to recount here, but it literally has everything: politics, music, drugs, violence and far more.

Official Plot Synopsis: ONDINE is the story of Syracuse, a simple fisherman who catches a beautiful and mysterious woman in his trawler’s nets. The woman seems to be dead, but then she comes alive before Syracuse’s eyes and he thinks he may be seeing things. However, with the help of his ailing, yet irrepressible daughter, Annie, he comes to believe that the fantastical might be possible and that the woman (Ondine) might be a myth come true. Ondine and Syracuse fall passionately in love, but just as we think the fairytale might go on forever, the real world intercedes. Then, after a terrible car crash and the return of a dark and violent figure from Ondine’s past, hope eventually prevails and a new beginning is presented to Syracuse, Ondine and Annie. Written and Directed by Neil Jordan and starring Colin Farrell as Syracuse and Alicja Bachleda as a mermaid.

Flight of the Conchords meets The Muppets? That’s what Vulture is saying might happen. They’re reporting that James Bobin, co-creator of the cult HBO show Flight of the Conchords (with Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie), is being offered the directing job on the new Muppets movie in development at Disney.

The film, co-written with David Michod, tells the story of a 13 year old boy named T.J.. After the tragic loss of his Mother, T.J., Along with his pill popping father (Wilson), are forced to live with his elderly Grandmother. A young man with with a troubled past named Hesher (Levitt) assumes the role as both mentor and tormentor, leading T.J into troubles he could never have imagined. A young grocery clerk named Nicole (Portman) steps in to protect T.J from a vicious attack, and becomes the object of T.J’s fantasies. And Hesher moves into Grandma’s home, although uninvited, he is somehow accepted.
